English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Goals for the ESOLProgram:

  • To facilitate students’ acquisition of English support their access to core content.

  • To provide instruction that supports the linguistic needs of the students.

Newly enrolling students whose families identify a language other than English on the Home Language Survey (HLS) during registration, are screened to identify whether ESOL services are needed. Students enrolling from other school districts who have WIDA ACCESS Scores will receive ESOL services based on those scores. A students with WIDA ACCESS Scores develop a course placement using their current WIDA ACCESS for ELLs data.  

ESOL services may include co-taught general education classes, sheltered content courses, differentiated materials, and alternative assessments. Students receive ESOL services based on their language needs, students newer to English will have more support, while students who are further along the language
